Can orthodontics negatively affect facial development?

I'm now a 17 year old male and had my braces removed very recently. Before braces I had a very slight overbite and had to get two teeth pulled from my upper jaw. To cover the spaces the upper and lower jaws had to be pushed back over the course of two years. Upon completion i noticed that my lower jaw is not level with the upper, but smaller. Also my upper lip became more prominent. Can this perhaps be due to the orthodontics treatment? Or is it just facial development with age?

Can orthodontics negatively affect facial development?
probably both; the shape of the braces probably has caused your lip to become that way but as you grow older the shape will probably lose its form and go back to normal
