Orthodontics treatment..., Do retainers and x rays included in the treatment or not?

I want to know whether retainers cost is included in the ortho treatment. My ortho said he will charge $450 for retainers after the treatment.





and also I want to know if we go to an ortho do they take x rays for free there itself or do we have to go out and pay money which is not included in the treatment.





My ortho said it costs Approximately $200 to get all the xrays done since he doesn't have that facility. And only one time you have to get x rays. He said in some cases 2 times. Is that true?





And one of my friends who go to general dentist for ortho treatment said if there is a need of extraction in the treatment that is also included in the treatment. Is it so for any body?

Some orthodontist include the retainer in their fees, but not all of them. As far as the x-rays I've always had to pay out of pocket for those. X-rays are separate from the orthodontia bill.

Reply:Get a second opinion and price with just what will be included. You would be surprised by the difference (or maybe not). See what the competition has to offer.
Reply:Okay. This always varies from orthodontist to orthodontist. You are going to have to go by what yours tells you. If you dont' think it's a good deal, get a second opinion. They do x-rays in the beginning to see what they have to do to adjust your bite. They will usually do another set when youare getting your braces off to make sure everything is good and show you the movement in your mouth. As for retainers, some include them in the price and some do not. They all charge if you lose your retainers and need to ahve them replaced.
Reply:Those orthodontic offices that have an X ray lab in-house will ususally include the X rays in the total fee. The offices without the X ray lab will send you to an outside lab and you will be responsible to pay them directly. Average price for X rays is about $200-$250. Retainers are included in most fees, but not always. Each office has different policies for retainers.


Extractions are never included in ortho fees, as these are usually done by a General Dentist.
