Orthodontics Spacers?
Spacers are normally only worn for a week or two prior to having bands placed around your back teeth. It is normal for them to hurt. You should try eating higher calorie, higher protein foods including eggs, meats, and hearty soups. When I was trying to gain weight in high school to make the hockey team, I drank Carnation Instant Breakfast every day and had eggs every morning for breakfast. Ask your orthodontist why your wearing your spacers for so long if it's going to be more than 2 weeks with them in. They only need to create a small amount of space to be able to place thin metal bands around your very back teeth. As long as you don't have a sensitivity or allergy to aspirin or ibuprofen, take ibuprofen for the pain. It will help the most of any of the pain relievers. I hope this helps.
Reply:its normal if uve gotten them recently.
i couldnt eat for 3 days
try eating soft foods, rice is good, but if ur worried about ur weight loss, try eating some protein or higher caloire foods
like yogurt or tofu or soup is always good :)
Reply:Spacers are basically separating your teeth. I've had them before, and it does hurt a lot. Rice isn't a very fulfilling source of protein - you should still get a variety of food. Try different soups (vegetable, beef, etc.) that don't hurt your teeth and are nourishing. Also make sure you take care of your oral hygiene - that could be a factor. Hopefully it'll be better by until you get them out.
Reply:Yes this is normal, i had spaces and it hurt until about after i got the braces fitted, BEST THING TO EAT AND NOT LOOSE WAIT: MASH POTATO AND MINCE MEAT. I lived on it after i got the spacers fitted and after i got the braces ( believe me the braces are Worth it so look forward 2 the reward of perfect teeth)
Reply:i had them too. they hurt some, but if they're REALLY hurting, sharp pains, you should call your ortho ASAP. you'll get used to them as your teeth move apart. try soups, stews, mashed or cooked potatoes, cooked veggies, rice pudding..most anything that's soft. they should feel better soon and maybe even fall out as the space opens up. good luck w/braces!
