Orthodontics questions?

I'm going to the orthodontist in about a few days, first to get spacers, then brackets, then all the wires and stuff. One of my friends who went through the same process said the spacers didn't hurt at all, but when she got the brackets it tasted horrible, she bled a lot, and it hurt a ton! I've heard other stories when the brackets didn't hurt at all. Anyone have any personal experiences? I'm not sure what to expect! Thanks!

Orthodontics questions?
spacers are like having popcorn stuck in your teeth. yes the cement stuff they put on your brackets tastes horrible. they are uncomfortable but they really dont hurt you feel pressure on your teeth but within a few hours it should be gone.
Reply:It all depends on your dentists personality
Reply:My experience is that for most children %26amp; teens it's not a problem at all. For just a few teens the braces hurt for a few days when you first get them. It's more painful for adults.
Reply:Every one is different. I found the spacers the most annoying thing you can imagine. It feels like you have steak stuck in all of your teeth. The appliances tore up my lips and cheeks for a while. Then it was bearable. It's over all a rather uncomfortable experience. Not horrible but certainly no fun. You get used to it in time. Never really had a bad taste. The adheasive is bad for a little bit. Really sour. Good luck
Reply:spacers kinda feel weird. i didnt like them. but when you get the brackets and wires on, i couldnt even feel it, but it hurts like a MOTHER afterwards. so take some advil RIGHT after you get everything put on. good luck hun :D
Reply:The spacers feel like you've got a little piece of meat or apple peel stuck between your teeth. Just a little annoying. The brackets feel like flossing your teeth really well when they're put in. Other than that, I had no problem with them. As for the braces themselves, it makes your teeth a little sore when they're tightened, but nothing some Advil, aspiring, or Tylenol can't take care of!
Reply:Hi,

Like someone else said, everyone is different when it comes to orthodontist work.

First of all, spacers are painful depending on how much space is needed. Are your teeth tight or are there gaps? If your molars are very tight, they will be uncomfortable and painful. If there are gaps, you may not even need all four spacers and it won't be as painful.

Brackets are the pieces of metal that they glue onto your teeth. The actual brackets aren't painful, but the braces are. I never bled when these were put on and neither has anyone I know.

Braces are painful, but there is stuff you can do. Take some Tylenol before you go to into each ortho appointment. Repeat the Tylenol every four to six hours. When the pain starts getting really bad, I always find that sucking on some ice chips helps. Anbesol and Orajel help for some people, but not for me personally.

If any part of the bracket (this could be what your friend is talking about) starts to get caught on your mouth, you will develop canker sores, which can become very painful. Your orthodontist will give you wax to put on the bracket to make it not hurt your mouth as much.

Good luck with the process. When the pain starts, it will feel like it is never going to end, but it will :)
Reply:when i got my spacers, that was the most pain out of everything... i got my bracket and wire at the same time... that didn't hurt at all just a little sore and i could only eat VERY soft foods....
