Where can I go to get low cost or free dental work and orthodontics?

My husband needs dental work and my 2 daughter needs braces (1 need oral surgery before the braces) and I can't afford it. Do dentists do any free work for tax benefits or something? How do I find out who?

Where can I go to get low cost or free dental work and orthodontics?
dental students often do work for free in teaching hospitals try looking into that
Reply:where do you live?

How long does it take to go through dental school plus specialty in orthodontics?

Here in UK -

5 years minimum at dental school. Then a further 2 years doing general professional training. (1 year practice, 6 months community and 6 months hospital). After that you need a further 2-3 years to do SpR training. You can then apply for your CSST and call yourself a consultant. If you simply wish to be a specialist practitioner, you can do that straight away although you should really do a lot of courses before then.

How long does it take to go through dental school plus specialty in orthodontics?
About eight years.
Reply:Hi! Here in USA you have to complete a 4 year undergraduate program, 4 years of dental school and then 3 years of orthodontics specialty. Most programs are a combination of classroom and clinic and are offered in such a way that the dentist can practice in a general office until h/she gets their license to specialize. ~M
Reply:In the US, 4 years of dental school for a DDS or DMD, then 2 years of postgraduate ortho training. This may include a masters degree or a certificate or both.

DDS 32 yrs
Reply:Well, 4 years and then another 4 years residency.

What four year college has the best journalism program and the best orthodontics program?

the university of missouri-columbia has the best journalism program. Orthodonics is a post graduate degree so no 4 year school could possibly have the best program.

Is my orthodontist just ripping me off? Someone that knows something about orthodontics would be good toanswer

I had braces in high scho. and paid in full at the begin. of treatment for two years that was expected. My ortho. ended up taking my braces off early--as I went to the dentist the follow. day after having them removed and my dentist said my bite was off and called my ortho. and said my treat. was not over--The first time that they were remov. I was given a plaster mold of my teeth I assume to make a copy if lost. After treat. the second go around I was not given this plaster mold--I wore my retainer periodic. up until now and if it was tight I would just wear it a week straight--and it would fit fine. I lost my retainer not long ago and asked for a copy of the original retainer--he said it was in storage and that it would not work to make a copy anyway--but I've moved my teeth before just fine back. He wanted to put braces back on-I said no way--then he said I should try the invisible retainer retainer that you gradually move-

Is this true or is he just trying to rip me off?

Is my orthodontist just ripping me off? Someone that knows something about orthodontics would be good toanswer
He is correct. Retainers are just that, they are meant to retain what you already have. Your Orthodontist must be noticing more movement/crowding than what a retainer is capable of changing. You also are not doing your teeth any good by on again off again retainer wear because you are constantly shifting your teeth, this can eventually cause root resorption, meaning the roots will get shorter and shorter and the teeth never get a chance to settle in one spot. Retainers are meant for consistent use on a nightly basis. It sounds like you may not have complied with treatment in the beginning and that was why the braces were removed the first time. Molds of your mouth are not always given out, unless the treatment is breached. If you followed through the second time, there was a set of molds made, but those molds are used to make the retainers and to show the difference from start to finish process. These same molds cannot be used years later or even months later because of the changes and shifts your teeth have done since those were taken, that would be like putting a warped lid on an old container.
Reply:That depends if he is retiring soon or not.... you should always wear your retainer, and you should as well wear a night guard. Teeth will go back to where they were, and the more you move them back and forth, the more at risk they are for root resorption... the root just gets gone!!!! So, whatever, get back into braces or a retainer, wear it all the time, and get a night guard... so see a different ortho if you want a second opinion. Braces are never cheap, sweetie, sorry.
Reply:Well, I am not going to directly answer your question as I am no orthodontist. However, I will give you some advice as my orthodontist did a poor overall job (he FORGOT to take my braces off on time, I was not quoted a date at the beginning, but he admitted forgetting later on). He also neglected to take into account the fact that I still had wisdom teeth, which soon began to come in and pushed my teeth all out of place again (ok, so they weren't nearly as bad as they were before, but not as straight). If you are already experiencing problems with your orthodontic procedures I would highly recommend keeping a close eye on your wisdom teeth.

Also, I believe your orthodontist was talking about Invisalign, which is basically a braces/retainer hybrid. It is like a retainer but it actually straightens your teeth like braces, it does not just keep them in place.
Reply:I think that he is ripping u off. Because they r not supposed to take the braces off until the treatment is over completly.

Question for those who has finish to wear braces or for orthodontics dentist!?

My orthodontic dentist made me wear elastics and I had worn them for 2 months but he said for several months, but I dont have huge gaps between my teeth. He made me wear Class II Elastics: an elastic running from the upper front teeth to the lower back teeth to be more specific, in how many months do you think I will have to wear those, and how many months did you worn them?

Question for those who has finish to wear braces or for orthodontics dentist!?
If your talking about the rubber bands you have to contect from top braces to bottom, yes I had those. I had to wear them for several months, to correct an overbite. I also had to wear them because a few of my adult teeth didn't come in and my dentist was trying to line my teeth as straight as possible. It wasn't for gaps. But I am sure they are used for different reasons. Ask your dentist why you have to wear them. Your dentist will answer any question you have!
Reply:the docs says like this only .it will take a period of 1 year to complete the course or else more.i $my colleagues had it nearly for 2 yrs .continue the course till docs advice or else again u will get gaps after 2 yrs.the same case is with me $my cousins
Reply:I get my elastics on my next appointment, but I'd say, people's mouths are different, maybe yours reacted quickly to the first elastics.

I've had my braces since April and people are saying they can see my teeth straightening up already.

I also go bite turbos my first appointment in April (they stop my top teeth from hitting my bottom brackets) and they said I would get them off the first appointment back.

Well my mouth hadn't moved enough so I'm probably getting them off this next time.

Does anyone know how to remove braces without going to the orthodontics?

tina i saw your question about the adhesive left on the teeth after you removed you and your daughters braces can you tell me how you did it PLEASE

Does anyone know how to remove braces without going to the orthodontics?
I used a Dewalt Girner drill andc rinsed with Cognac/
Reply:I would never advice doing that. You could damage your teeth. Since you spend so much money on braces, why not let them remove the braces?

Makes sense to me!
Reply:Whaaaat???...After alllll that work you are going to do it yourself???...That doesn't sound like the best plan of action to me!
Reply:Why can't you have your orthodontist do it? Even if your treatment isn't complete, if you want them off you can sign a waiver stating that you are aware your treatment isn't complete and you will not hold your orthodontist responsible for your decision to terminate treatment.

Of course, if you are under 18, it's your parents decision.
Reply:i would definatly go to the dentist because if you have had all that work done removing them your self could ruin all that work

i dont understand why you dont want to go to the orthodontist

if it is a spacific orthodontist that you dont like then change it.
Reply:I'm a dentist.

Don't even try it. Go to your orthodontist and have them removed properly.
Reply:you shouldn't take your braces off yourself. first of all, you paid all that money to make your teeth perfect, then you chip them and rip your teeth out trying to get them off, so your teeth will still look bad. second, they're cemented to your teeth, so good luck with that!

How does a chiropractor end up sending you to a orthodontics after your adjustments with him?

And I would appreicate mauture answers , Thanks

How does a chiropractor end up sending you to a orthodontics after your adjustments with him?
Do you mean an Orthopedic? Orthodontic is for your mouth, like when you get braces to have your teeth straightened. An Orthopedic is a doctor that treats problems with your bones,

and muscles.

If he is sending you to an Orthopedic, it is probably something that might require surgery.

If it is an Orthodontist, maybe he thinks you have TMJ and it is

causing whatever pain you are having
Reply:the 2 specialties do have to do with bones. maybe he noticed something in your mouth (teeth are bone) that needed to be looked into (no pon intended - I wasn't even trying).

I'd go if I were you.

Well I am currently getting something related, that can be used on teenagers, meant to expand and correct the dental arches(creating a more beautiful smile and face in the process). I'm 16. THe process is usually fast and should be done in a year. *this treatment* is usually offered by supporters of orthotropics. The results aren't as good, but they're good and can easily avoid the need for surgery.

However true(full blown) orthotropics, needs to be started before 11 usually(for boys), and preferably younger! (though the methods can still correct bad bites and avoid the need for surgery in significantly older patients)Depending on the severity of the problem it can take a long time, but the results are truly fantastic! How long? Anywhere from 2 to 7 years! My little sister, is getting orthotropics at my recommendation(I discovered it a year ago. she's 9).

You can always find more info at orthotropics.com, fasttrax, and google :P.

The cost is usually slightly less than regular orthodontics.

Are you a parent or are you considering it for yourself?

Either way, I say you should have it done. It's a hard process but worth it.

Edit: As I recall, i know a young girl who had it done! She looked very odd back in the second grade, but she's quite lovely now. Every child has the potential to grow attractively.

What r pros and cons of different dental specialties (general, orthodontics, prosthodontics, endodontics, etc)?

I specialize in prosthodontics. I had an additional 2 years of training after my DDS license.

Advantages: I make alot more than regular general dentist so I only have to work 3 day a week. I like challenge: all my cases are diverse and complex. I only have to deal with crowns, bridges, dentures, dental implants, oral cancer reconstruction esthetic and reconstructive dentistry. I feel being a prosthodentist is very rewarding. You see results right away (like veneers, crowns), unlike ortho or perio.

Disadvantages: Few very difficult cases. Patient’s satisfaction. Miscommunication with general dentists.

What r pros and cons of different dental specialties (general, orthodontics, prosthodontics, endodontics, etc)?
I'm a GP, so I'll answer for myself. I love being able to do whatever I feel qualified to do whenever the opportunity presents itself. As long as I know where to draw the line, I get to enjoy doing something different each and every day and this keep me stimulated and challenged. (Oddly, the specialists tell me that I am one of their "better" referral sources, but I guess that's because I am diagnosing more "specialist" material in the first place.) One endodontist that I refer to told me that the general dentist has the hardest job in dentistry, trying to keep up with all of the new techniques and materials that come out in all areas of dentistry, so I guess that's a "con" in some ways, but it's also a "pro," because that's part of what keeps it so stimulating.

What is the best / most famous dental clinic ( specially for orthodontics ) in London?

Dr. Shamsudheen Moopen, BDS, MDS Paediatric Dentistry, M. Sc. Orthodontics (London), FDSRCS (Edinburgh)

What do they do when you go to the orthodontics for a consultation?

.................

What do they do when you go to the orthodontics for a consultation?
Look @ your teeth %26amp; x-rays from your dentist, tell you what to expect from treatment: outcome, cost, length of time you'd need treatment.
Reply:At the initial consulation, the orthodontist examines your teeth, your gum health, and your "bite" (how your upper and lower teeth meet) and then he/she makes recommendations for treatement.

These consultations are usually free of charge.

If you don't like what one orthodontist says, you can go to another one for another consulation. Don't feel weird about this, because every orthodontist has a slightly different idea about how to do treatment. There are many ways to arrive at the same result.

Here is an exerpt from our website on this subject on what happens after you decide to get braces:

X-Rays and Molds

You usually need to get panoramic x-rays of your mouth, plus a full set of x-rays of individual teeth.

Photographs of your face, teeth, and mouth may also be taken, so look nice on x-ray day! Those photographs will be part of your permanent file!

The orthodontist will take molds of your teeth. This feels like a mouthful of silly putty and doesn't last long (30 seconds each). They do the uppers, then the lowers. You often have your choice of flavor for the putty stuff. It's no big deal. If you have an easy gag reflex, just try your best to relax during the process.

Treatment Plan

Your orthodontist will review the x-rays and molds, and come up with a treatment plan.

Before any treatment begins, your orthodontist should review the treatment plan with you in a consultation visit. This is the time to ask all the necessary questions.
Reply:I am very worried about you

Can I claim my contacts lenses/eye doctor visits/orthodontics on my Canadian taxes? (ontario)?

Yes, each of those expenses is an allowable medical expense, assuming that you didn't receive any reimbursement from a medical plan for them.

To claim them you total your medical expenses. In order to receive a credit your medical expenses need to exceed 3% of your Net Income to a maximum of $1,884 (net income of $62,800). The credit is put on S1 and ON 428 for Ontario.

So as an example if you have $2000 in medical expenses and $30K in income you have an allowed claim of $2,000 - ($30,000 X .03) = $1,100.

The tax credit is worth 15.25% of the allowed claim Federally and 6.05% Ontario.

The below link goes to CRAs information on claiming medical expenses.

Hope that helps.

Cheers.

Can I claim my contacts lenses/eye doctor visits/orthodontics on my Canadian taxes? (ontario)?
Yeah if there is a spot for it on the form. In most cases it has to be a certain amount. And you can claim your doctors visits as well as dentist visits too.
Reply:Yes, you can claim all of those as medical expenses... I claimed my eye glasses, chiropractor, prescriptions. I totally forgot to claim my dentist and eye doctor visit.... =( I can't believe I did that...

Oh! and if you e-file, you can get your return really quickly. I did mine near the end of February and got my check 10 days later.

What is a good insurance plan that will cover orthodontics?

My daughter has to have some orthodontic work done (a widening appliance to widen her top jaw, then a face mask to correct her underbite), and of course, the plan I have through work covers nothing. Are there plans out there that I can sign up for that will help substantially reduce the cost of this $2,700 procedure?

Delta Dental pays a max of $1000 for ortho work. $2700 seems pretty reasonable, I paid $4300 for my daughter.

Can you eat and sleep with orthosil or other orthodontics wax?

So one of my brackets on my braces fell out and it is moving around on the wire and getting cut on my lips. I put orthosil on it and I was wondering if it is okay to eat and sleep with it. Basically I'm trying to ask is it safe if I accidentally swallow it when I'm eating or sleeping?

Can you eat and sleep with orthosil or other orthodontics wax?
Orthodontic relief wax is meant to be in the mouth. It is perfectly safe even if swallowed. It is silicone-based, which means it should be excreted safely if swallowed.

Has anyone with TMJ problems had good results from orthodontics?

I suffer from pain, clicking sounds in the ear and ringing in the ear on the right hand side of the face. These problems seem to be due to a misaligned jaw joint

I have seen an orthodontist who thinks I might be able to get good results from splints and braces on the teeth to correct the problem, but he has quoted me £7500 for the treatment.

Has anyone else had good results with this sort of treatment and how much did it cost?

Has anyone with TMJ problems had good results from orthodontics?
go to a TMJ specialist first before deciding on wearing braces.if the pain you are experiencing is a result of misaligned teeth and jaw,you surely need braces.i had same problem as you many years back, had by braces for 3 years,i am perfectly okay now,i can eat nuts without waking up in the morning with pain in my teeth and jaw.
Reply:I had TMJ my orthodontist gave me this retainer like device that kept both of my upper and lower jaws straight, and togeather, made it very hard to talk. I did not use it. And about 7 years after word it just went away all on its own. Goood Luck!
Reply:Im in the process of having braces - and was quoted £4000.00 check out the harley street dental studios. Good Luck!!
Reply:I had a similar problem (misaligned jaw, loud clicks, pain + couldn't open mouth wide) and was treated by a cranial osteopath who, for just over 100 quid, solved it. I now open my mouth, have no pain or clicks. You could try that instead of braces and splints....I sympathize
Reply:It did not help me.
Reply:i should try going to a normal dentist who can show you excercises and possible wearing a night guard will help,
Reply:Before any treatment you have to solve your tmj problem. This might mean the use of a "bite" that allow a repositioning in a physiological way of the jaws. Well you have to know that there is a clinical position and a physiological one. The first is determined by the memory of the contacts among teeth. The second is the position when there is the minimal eletrical activity of the masticatory muscles. Using different tecniques is possible to known how much millimeter is the discrepancy between the 2 positions.

Only after that the dentist will decide which strategy is better (restorative "patching", protesic crowns, orthodontics) in realizing the risght occlusion (the clinical occlusion should be equal or very close to the physiological).

An important point is to understood the origin of the sound you ear. Usually clicks are caused by a menuscus not more in the right position. You could have also bones remodelling. The Nuclear Resonance is the gold standart for TMJ phathologies.

What are the most important questions to ask the orthodontics when getting braces?

Specific - the initial care of your teeth prior the getting braces and Is it better to go to a regular dentist first?

What are the most important questions to ask the orthodontics when getting braces?
You should ask how long your going to have to wear them.

My sister is gettin 2 teeth pulled by orthodontics?

k her orthodontist needs 2 pull both of her cuspids on the top. will she give her laughing gas or numb her up? does she have the choice? will she bleed alot afterwards? will she feel like goin 2 skool afterwards?

My sister is gettin 2 teeth pulled by orthodontics?
I had to get 2 teeth on top pulled as well when I got my braces. I received 2 shots to numb my mouth, one in the top left gums and one in the top right gums. The shots hurt a little, just like any shot, then after that you won't feel anything (except your top lip will feel really funny while it's numb). She will bleed a lot after they are pulled, but you are given gause and need to keep it on the area the teeth were pulled, and keep the pressure applied. You may need to change the gause too, because there will be a lot of blood and 1 won't last forever. The bleeding should only last a few hours after you leave, but I wouldn't worry if it lasted more (the dentist pulling the teeth should tell you anyway). And about school.. It depends, if she got the teeth pulled right in the morning before school, I know I wouldn't be in a mood to go. But if it's like a day-before thing, then yes.

What is theDifference between overjet and overbite in orthodontics? And Which is more worse on facial profile?

Overjet measures the HORIZONTAL difference between the front biting edge of your upper incisors vs. that of the lower incisors when your teeth are in their normal bite position (when all your teeth are biting together, what we call "maximum intercuspation").

Overbite measures the VERTICAL overlap between the front biting edge of your upper incisors vs. that of the lower incisors when your teeth are in their normal bite position.

Overbite and overjet in themselves is only a small part of facial appearance, so on their own one can't really say what is "more worse on facial profile."

Hope this helps!

My dental insurance company does not pay for orthodontics treatment since i am over 21...?

Is there any way I can get some sort of reimbursement for getting braces since they are sooooooo expensive. The dependant-only rule is pure BS if you ask me, everyone should get assistane, not just kids.

My dental insurance company does not pay for orthodontics treatment since i am over 21...?
Unlike the previously mentioned implants, which by the way can be very esthetically pleasing if sized properly(not too big), orthodontic treatment has several functional , as well as cosmetic benefits. Your insurance carrier is very narrow minded in my opinion if they donot have a benefit for ortho treatment at any age.
Reply:Try going to the dental school at your local university. They will often do cheap work since it is performed by supervised students. Otherwise, try finding a healthcare provider that will cover the costs.
Reply:that's like a girl asking for assistance with breast implants. pay for your own body.
Reply:Insurance companies DO have orthodontic coverage available for adults, if they or their employer pay the premium. They can't just cover every service that everyone might ever need without collecting a sufficient premium.

You might have a medical expense plan or you might qualify for a health savings account (HSA) and either one of these could probably be used to pay for braces with before-tax dollars.
Reply:Find a good orotho, get to know the type of insurance accepted.

Get a gig that will give benefits within 30 days, then have the exam done...

How long after u get referred to your orthodontics by your dentist do u get braces?

it really depends on you and when you're available or even when your ortho/dentist tells you to come in cause they need to get the brackets ,separators and stuff delivered.

it should usually be after you get a mold of your mouth

How long after u get referred to your orthodontics by your dentist do u get braces?
Depends on your individual case. Sometimes you need teeth pulled, sometimes you need teeth to grow in, sometimes you need expanders before braces - it just depends.

All 3 of my girls had to have "spacers" for a week and then got braces the following week - right after their consultation.

How can i make my jaw bigger without orthodontics?
Except for waiting for growth, I don't think you can. Even with orthodontics, the amount of jaw growth stimulated with various appliances is small and dictated by your genetics. At 16, you are probably still growing.

When you are done growing, plastic surgery procedures including 'Genioplasty' are options to change your appearance. I would not recommend this until you are done growing, since there may be significant changes until then.

What is a Warren's spring used in orthodontics? Are there any prefabricated ones ? Thanks!?

A Warren Spring is a torquing auxiliary used in orthodontic treatment. A torquing auxiliary is used to apply either palatal or labial root torquing forces to any one or more teeth. The auxiliary is in the form of an arcuate wire of highly resilient material such that it will not deform when activated and will tend to return to its passive state, and which includes at least a portion that can be easily secured to a bracket against relative rotation therewith.

As to whether prefrabicated ones are availble, I'm not sure what you mean by that.

Question about orthodontics in Australia?

Can anybody please tell me about how much does a regular braces adjustment cost in Sydney (for an "international" patient - I come from Europe)? And also the removing of braces and getting (Essix) retainers?

I really need to know and would be very thankful if someone could give me any idea!

Question about orthodontics in Australia?
To be quite honest, although I've not had to visit a dentist in Australia, I have had to go to the Dr. as well as take my Grandmother when she was ill %26amp; it seems they work on the same system as Canada %26amp; likely Europe as well. The cost from what I remember seemed to have been based on basically how much I/we were able to pay for the visit %26amp; from what I know %26amp; a friend of mine in Oz who was getting dental work started, dentists seem to be along the same lines as Dr.'s cost wise. I don't recall paying anything for the Dr. visits, but did pay something for the Rx my grandmother had to have filled for an anti-biotic %26amp; my friend ended up paying for that but as I recall it wasn't much. Not compared to here in the US especially!

If you'd like I can try to contact my friend %26amp; ask him more specifics. He's been working out of the country on some places based in the ocean where he's not exactly easy to reach on a regular basis lately! He comes back to Oz on a schedule that's pretty much his so I don't know when for sure I'll be able to contact him, but I do know other people I can try to ask %26amp; hope for a quick reply if that's at all helpful.

Whats the diference between an orthodontist and orthodontics???? help?

can someone please clear that up and help me whats the difference??????

Whats the diference between an orthodontist and orthodontics???? help?
orthodontist is the actual person who works on your teeth and gives you braces and such.

orthodontics is the actual study of whatevers wrong with your teeth. like an overbite.
Reply:an orthodontist preforms the practice of orthdontics just like a obstetrician practices obstetrics and pediatrician practice pediatrics and gynocologist practices gynocology...etc etc etc

Can a "open bite" be treated without orthodontics?

Seems everyone is different, some need braces, others need night shields and some need surgery. Best of Luck

Can a "open bite" be treated without orthodontics?
i had an open bite, but different than most. Instead of my my top teeth in the front not touching the bottom, They were the only ones that touched. On both sides of my jaw, my top teeth (all my molars) didn't touch the bottoms. So i couldn't chew properly unless i chewed with my front teeth.

Not only did I have braces, I had to have surgery to fix my problem.

I would say you need orthodontics
Reply:discuss this with your dentist.

Can Anyone Tell Me About The Accelerated Orthodontics Procedure?
We have an extensive web page covering AOO/Wilckodontics. Please visit our website, because all of your questions are answered in a non-biased manner. There are also a couple of stories from people who went through the AOO procedure.

In addition, you can ask some questions on our message board, because I think that a few of our active members have had this procedure.
Reply:great question
Reply:There is a lot of information to provide to you. It is a great program, and I have provided the link below for you, it has many different bits of information for you as well. I would copy and paste, but this way you can see for yourself. Your individual treatment, and cost will vary from one to the next, and without a plan, it is hard to answer any of these specifics. The link can provide a lot of information of the general facts and figures though. Good luck..

Does anyone know how much the accelerated orthodontics procedure cost?

How painful is it? Is it as painful as regular braces? Is it less painful? And does it really give great results?

Does anyone know how much the accelerated orthodontics procedure cost?
ITS REGULAR BRACES OVER A SHORT TIME. I WOULD NOT SUGGEST THIS AS IT LEADS TO RELAPSE. PRICES VARY, BUT CHANCES RE YOU WILL NEED FULL BRACES LATER ANYWAY. STAY AWAY FROM THIS.

Is private orthodontic treatment quicker than NHS orthodontics in the UK?

i am getting a brace and want to know if going private would produce quicker results and mean less time with a brace on.

Is private orthodontic treatment quicker than NHS orthodontics in the UK?
I'm not from the UK, but NHS is your government/national health care right? Treatment time, time in braces, should really be about the same either way. There are some techniques/systems that take a little more or a little less time, and some Dr.s might like an extra month or 2 for some finishing touch tweaks, but all in all it's up to how involved your particular case is.
Reply:No - but you'll probably get started quicker so you'll be finished sooner

How could i find a doctor on orthodontics?

look in your phone book for local orthodonists...or ask your dentist for a referral being that they work with some orthodontists communicating back and fourth with one another to discuss treatment plans ex. you need a cavitiy filled before he puts on braces or other treatments before procedure

How could i find a doctor on orthodontics?
Ask your dentist for a referral
Reply:I would get a phone book and visit as many as I can and choose the one I feel most comfortable/confident about.

Make sure you actually get one that does the orthodontics adjustment/wiring/monthly appoint him/herself, NOT THE ASSISTANT. That makes a HUGE difference. Those offices where assitants do the monthly adjustment are really bad, they are only in for the profit because only the doctor does the final check at the end. Those ones are to be avoided at all cost.

How can I get an insurance for orthodontics?

I went to a dentist to put braces on my teeth. They asked me to pay about 3000 dollars. It was expensive. So, I want to get a dental insurance for my braces... Can you help me? I live in Texas by the way.

How can I get an insurance for orthodontics?
Good luck. To get insured you have to have incredibly bad teeth. Your teeth need to be proven to be hazardous to your health for them to even consider insuring you. Chances are about a thousand to one that any health care company will pay for your braces. I got lucky because I had government health care, so they paid for mine because I had a cross bite. Normal insurance companies probably would not have paid for it. Good luck, but don't get your hopes up.
Reply:Call your dentist and see if he has a suggestion.
Reply:There are several insurance companies that offer dental ins. Delta Dental is one. Google it.
Reply:save some money and go to europe or india , I mean braces are like a 1000 bucks there , my ccousin is working to be an orthodontist or dentist and she says braces in europe are like $800

Do any health insurance plans cover orthodontics for adults?

Yes, many dental insurances will cover a part of your

orthodontic costs. Beware of the waiting periods for

any ortho work though. There are other plans that

will cover orthodontic work without waiting periods too,

see below.

Do any health insurance plans cover orthodontics for adults?
Yes, there are alot of them that do...just call your insurance company and ask them and also ask how much they will pay.
Reply:It depends on your health insurance plan. At our company, dental is separate from medical but it does cover adult orthodontics.
Reply:Depends on the insurance company. Check with you dentist if they offer any payment plans or dental plans. I paid mines off at $100 a month for several years. Or check dentalplans.com, bluecross.com (I have this and it covers part of ortho), kaiser.com, deltadental.com or westerndental.com. Good luck!
Reply:Many insurance plans do not cover orthodontics, especially for adults. If they do, they are quite expensive.

But I work with a company that offers a Dental Plan at a affordble price. It not only takes care of orthodontics, for adults, but it also includes teeth whitening. Three other plans are give to you at no additional charge.

What is the difference between a Orthodontics, Endodontics and Periodontics dentist?

My regular dentist refer me to a Endodontics specialist to remove a crown but I thought that he will be able to remove it. Is it a difernet specialty in dentistry or what?

What is the difference between a Orthodontics, Endodontics and Periodontics dentist?
In California, a general dentist is licensed to do *all* specialty aspects of dentistry. (with the exception of sedation and general anesthesia) We can legally do braces, root canals, gum surgeries, wisdom tooth extractions, implants, or any other task that specialists do. However, not all general dentists have the training, equipment, experience, or comfort level to do these advanced procedures. What's more, the Dental Practice Act requires a general dentist to perform procedures at the same level as specialists. If a general dentist can't do a specialty procedure as well as a specialist, he/she has an ethical and moral obligation to refer.

Your dentist referred to a specialist because he is not comfortable treating your tooth. He doesn't want to take the risk of messing up and getting sued when he knows a specialist can do it faster, safer and better than him. It might cost you a little more, but you will probably get better treatment in the end.

FYI, here are the *legally recognized* dental specialties in California (and most states):

PEDIATRIC DENTISTRY - (aka pedodontics, latin for "children's teeth") specializing in children. Behavior management (bratty or fearful kids) and sedation are emphasized.

ENDODONTICS - (from latin for "inside teeth") specializing in the root canal therapy and the surgical treatments when root canals fail. Emphasis on using microscopes and high tech treatment tools. The only specialty that still requires general dentistry experience before going to specialty school.

PERIODONTICS - (from latin "surrounding teeth") specializing in gum related treatments. Emphasis on gum surgeries and hygiene. Increasing emphasis on dental implants.

PROSTHODONTICS - (from latin "adding to teeth") specializing in false teeth through bridges, crowns, dentures, and increasingly, implants. Most commonly, prosthodontists do full mouth reconstructions. Occasionally, they create prosthetics for noses, lips or chins lost in accidents.

ORAL SURGERY - (aka oral maxillofacial surgery) specializing in surgeries and the sedation or anesthesia needed for them. Most frequently, they extract lots of wisdom teeth and premolars for braces. More and more emphasis on dental implants.

ORTHODONTICS - (from latin "straight teeth") specializing in braces, clear aligner therapy (Invisalign) and appliance therapy (headgear and active retainers). Emphasis is on straightening teeth.

ORAL PATHOLOGY - specializing in identifying diseases of the mouth such as oral cancer or autoimmune disorders. Spend most of their time looking at slides sent in from the oral surgeons. Do not work directly with patients.

PUBLIC HEALTH - specializing in epidemiology and government programs to help the population's dental health, particularly the poor.

Here are commonly used but legally *unrecognized* dental specialties:

1. Implantology - I don't see this one becoming a legally recognized specialty because too many other specialties want in on implants.

2. Family Dentistry

3. Cosmetic Dentistry - most of it technically falls under prosthodontics

4. Anesthesiology - mainly because the rich oral surgeons keep blocking their recognition.

5. TMD - not a legal specialty, but there are some very good doctors out there who have put a great deal of time and study on TMD. There are also a lot of quacks here, too.

6. Sports Dentistry

7. Holistic dentistry - very popular in Hawaii. In California, many holistic dentistry fundamentals (removal of all silver fillings to cure non-dental diseases) are considered malpractice.

8. Forensic dentistry - like anesthesiology, this is IMO a valid specialty with many great practitioners, it just hasn't been legally recognized yet.

Dentists in legally recognized specialties get a certificate from their state, permission to advertise themselves as a specialist, and justification to charge higher fees than general dentists. Because specialists usually give up the right to practice general dentistry, they get referrals from general dentists.

I hope that this completely answers your question. If not, visit my website and contact me through there.
Reply:He probably refered you to a endodontist because you may need a root canal. The Endodonist works on the inside of teeth, dealing with the pulp, a Periodontist works on the soft tisues in your mouth, usually the gums (ever heard of a gum graft?) and an Orthodontist will help your teeth line up correctly for chewing and for looks as well (braces, etc.)
Reply:Orthodontics treat improper bite disorders (ortho means bones so any jaw disorders, etc), Endodontics deals with with tooth pulp and tissues surronding the root of the teeth (endo means internal, so inside the tooth, nerves, etc) and peridontics deal with diseases of the gums. (peri means around, so the gums, gingivitis, etc.
Reply:I'm a dentist.

Anyone with a D.D.S. or D.M.D. after their name is a "dentist". Within dentistry there are 9 specialties. General practitioners (aka general dentists) are the only non-specialists, and make up the majority of practicing dentists.

Orthodontists (doctors of a specialty known as "orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics") spend 2 to 3 years in a residency after dental school. They place appliances in the mouth to modify facial growth, straighten teeth, change bites, etc.

Endodontists (doctors specializing in endodontics) spend 2 to 3 years after dental school in a residency. They learn to perform what boils down to two different procedures: root canals and apicoectomies. Everything else they do is related to these two procedures. In my opinion, it is an abomination that this specialty exists. Basically, it exists because many general dentists are too goddamned lazy to bother learning how to do everything that endodontists do.

Periodists (doctors specializing in periodontics) spend three years after dental school in a residency. They learn to treat diseases of the periodontal tissues (gums and bone). They perform tissue grafts, bone grafts, and place implants (although many general dentists, myself included, do these too). This specialty should not exist either, but it does.

For your general dentist to refer you to an endodontist to remove a crown is ridiculous. Find another doctor.
Reply:Orthodontics is for braces ,Periodontics is for gums,Endodontics is for root canals.

Reply:Hiya, much like the previos guy, needed braces from young but was too vain back then, am now 25 and in the process of having them done! have gone to the Harley Street Dental Studios in London - they are brilliant and have quoted me £4000 to straighten my teeth - but the overall costs depends on your teeth - go and have a consultation - most are free, or around £50.00.

How many years of dentistry is needed to be an orthodontics? Is orthodontics study really hard?

Plz give me an overview of how hard it is? Thank you

How many years of dentistry is needed to be an orthodontics? Is orthodontics study really hard?
4 years of college, 4 years of dental school, 3 years of ortho school.

and you have to graduate in the top 1% of the first two to get into ortho school.
Reply:yes it is hard, very hard. You have to become a DOCTOR. That is what a dentist is, a doctor. So you need probably 5 or 6 years of college.

Is cosmetic dentistry an alternative to orthodontics? Also, can it do anything to fix an underbite?

yea either a real messy surgery or they give you a hannible lecter face mask to wear at night you know relly man under bites are cool anyways i got a massive one but it gives me a pronounced jaw line that the ladies love i'd be a no chin git with out it, be carful you'll change the shape of your face a bit i'd just get them straightened and bleached and your good to go no need for all of that

Is cosmetic dentistry an alternative to orthodontics? Also, can it do anything to fix an underbite?
Yes it is, but I'm not sure about the underbite thing.
Reply:BENNER,

COSMETIC SURGERY HAS LIMITED APPLICATIONS WHERE DENTISTRY IS CONCERNED.

TO CORRECT A CLASS 3 MALOCCLUSION (AN UNDER BITE) THERE ARE SEVERAL OPTIONS:

1.JAW SURGERY

2. ORTHODONTICS

3. JAW SURGERY AND ORTHODONTICS

THE BEST THING TO DO IS TO BE EVALUATED BY AN ORTHODONTIST TO SEE WHAT YOUR OPTIONS ARE.

Can i still go to an Orthodontics appt. with a fever blister?
Yes, you can still go. Just make sure you bring it to the doctor or assistant's attention. No one will be kissing you and they will be wearing rubber gloves anyway, so need to worry about spreading it. If it's really sore, you may want to reschedule tho. Good luck.

In the US, you need to get either your DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) or DMD (Doctor of Medical Dentistry) license, which are the same thing... then you need additional schooling for the specialty you want to acheive, like orthodontics...

Can somebody help me with orthodontics?where is the best place to go?

The best place to go is to your local orthodontist. Talk to your dentist to see who he generally refers to, go for a consultation to see if you like the office and dentist and staff but choose one that is easy for you to get to because with ortho you will be having lots of adjustment appointment that only take a short time so an office where you can easily drop in close to home or work makes most sense.

You can take some OTC pain medication like ibuprofen or Tylenol for a few days.
Reply:take pain reliever
Reply:Advil helps
Reply:ibuprofen, aspirin, etc.
Reply:advil and eat soft food
Reply:drink a cold drink. it kind of numbs it for a while. and take some advil. when i had my spacers put in, the pain went away after a couple days.
Reply:motrin or ibprofen work the best. but i can tell you that the spacers are the worst part of getting braces. mine slipped out the first night and i had to find a way to put them back in which hurt worse. you just have to try and keep your mind off of them. oh and try something cold it will numb the pain a little bit
Reply:well you could always get Advil but i prefer is Colgate Orabase., its wonderful it makes your mouth numb so you don’t really feel it.. i love it
Reply:swish with salt water that helped a lot. and yes spacers are the worst part of braces. i had 16 spacers, so yeah, dont complain.

A good dental plan for orthodontics for a child in Nevada?

Her mother has a dental plan but it doesn't cover much.

Can anyone recommend a good plan that covers significant orthodontic work in Nevada?

Or can anyone recommend an insurance agent in Nevada that could handle this?

A good dental plan for orthodontics for a child in Nevada?
I know most dental plans don't have great coverage for orthodontics
Reply:They ALL cover very little or no orthodontic work. It's costly and most children don't follow the dentist's instructions, so it's a waste of money. If it's so serious that she's having trouble eating or doing other necessary daily activities that involve use of her mouth, your medical plan may cover it, but it's no gaurentee. Orthodontics are viewed as cosmetic only.

What is cephalic index in orthodontics?

cephalometric analysis The process of evaluating dental and skeletal relationships by way of measurements obtained directly from the living head or, more commonly, from cephalometric radiographs and tracings. Refers also to the standardized sets of cephalometric measurements (e.g., Downs Analysis) commonly used in the evaluation.

cephalometric landmarks Points on a cephalometric radiograph or tracing representing certain hard or soft tissue anatomical structures (anatomical landmarks) or intersections of lines (constructed landmarks).

A point Subspinal (Downs) The deepest (most posterior) midline point on the curvature between the ANS and prosthion.

ANS anterior nasal spine The tip of the bony anterior nasal spine at the inferior margin of the piriform aperture, in the midsagittal plane.

AR articulare A constructed point representing the intersection of three radiographic images: the inferior surface of the cranial base and the posterior outlines of the ascending rami or mandibular condyles.

B point (Downs) The deepest (most posterior) midline point on the bony curvature of the anterior mandible, between infradentale and pogonion.

Bolton point (Broadbent) The highest points on the outlines of the retrocondylar fossae of the occipital dome, approximates the center of the foramen magnum.

GO gonion The most posterior inferior point on the outline of the angle of the mandible.

key ridge The most inferior point on the zygomatic process of the maxilla as seen in a lateral cephalometric radiograph; the craniometric point zygomaxillare.

NA nasion The intersection of the internasal and frontonasal sutures, in the midsagittal plane.

OR orbitale The lowest point on the inferior orbital margin.

POG pogonion The most anterior point on the contour of the bony chin, in the midsagittal plane.

PO porion The most superior point of the outline of the external auditory meatus.

PNS posterior nasal spine The most posterior point on the bony hard palate in the midsagittal plane; the meeting point between the inferior and the superior surfaces of the bony hard palate (nasal floor) at its posterior aspect.

R point (Broadbent) A cephalometric reference point for registration of superimposed tracings.

S sella tursica The geometric center of the pituitary fossa (sella turcica), determined by inspection ? a constructed point in the mid-sagittal plane.

cephalometric radiograph A standardized radiograph of the head characterized by a precisely defined relationship among x-ray source, subject and film. By convention, the distance between x-ray source and the 'center' of the subject (midsagittal plane or transporionic axis) is either 5 feet (1 52.4 cm.) or 150 cm. The distance between the midsagittal plane or transporionic axis of the subject and film is approximately 12 cm., but may be standardized at a different value or varied according to head size and recorded for each exposure. The standard projections are lateral (profile) and posteroanterior (P-A).

Evolution of bonding system in orthodontics?

Bonding directly to enamel with braces began soon after the discovery of properly preparing enamel. The father of modern bonding techniques published his article in 1955:

Following the early developments, advances have been primarily in the contents of the bonding materials, use of mechanical retention on the braces, and improved primers.

What type of mathematics do orthodontics use?
I'm not sure exactly what you mean by this question, but I used to work for an orthodontist and they don't use any formulas if that's what you mean, they just use basic math

Reply:They rely on the skills to count accurately with fingers. They need to count how many irregular teeth you got.

Do military spouses get orthodontics?

My husband just swore in again today and now that we get dental,i was wondering, can i get braces that they will pay for or is it consider cosmetic and i will have to still come outta my pocket with the money even though we're military

Do military spouses get orthodontics?
I doubt very seriously you will get covered for braces. Unless it is a deformity or handicap. My sister is married to a military man and now has dental..and she has had the worst luck with her teeth. She had a tooth that was really bad and was abscessed. She needed a root canal..but with the dental..she would still have had to pay about $600 out of pocket! ridiculous! She ended up getting it pulled and I think that cost her about $150 out of pocket.
Reply:We have the military insurance too! We have to pay for my sons braces and they are medically necessary! I hope this helps!
Reply:If your base has a good sized dental clinic your hubby could ask if the do braces..sometimes the military docs have to do proceedures to stay current,,,you may luck out..

Otherwise you go out of pocket..

Bending the archwire in orthodontics?

I had an adjustment yesterday and my orthodontist removed the wire that I had, bent it in some spots, and put it back in. It's bent "up and down" so if you look at it straight on, it looks like a step from one brace to another. What does bending the wire do to the teeth? Move it up or down? Keep in mind that my teeth are already linear and that they wire fit wasily without needing to be bent, but my ortho bent it anyways. This is first time I've had this done in since I got my braces over a year ago.

Thanks a lot! =]

Bending the archwire in orthodontics?
The small bends he is using now are correcting small little nuances of you bite/smile that will make it that much nicer. If you have been in braces for a year sometimes they reach a point where the wire is at it's max, now comes the closing spaces, looking at the occlusion, lining up the edges of the teeth, and using possible rubber-bands to make all the teeth fix just right.

It may not seem like the Orthodontist did anything to help, but he did.

Hang in there!

Anyone else ever have orthodontics cause TMJ later in life?

I had braces and retainer for 8 years from age 14 to 22. I wore headgear and later rubber bands. I think they made my upper jaw too small. It is at my far range of motion to close my teeth together and my jaw pops when I open it far. The only time I close my teeth completely together is when I am chewing. We can't afford TMJ treatment, since the insurance doesn't cover it.

I feel your pain. I got TMJ after braces too. But mine doesn't seem to be as bad as yours. Just popping and pain and locking of my Jaw. I sort of learned to deal with it cuz the treatments are too expensive.
Reply:It happens, depending on how you were treated. If teeth or jaw were pushed back, yes.

Teach yourself that when you yawn, you touch the roof of your mouth with your tongue - keeps the strain off your ligaments.

What dental plan will give me a good orthodontics discount, or at least lower my orthodontics cost by half?

i live in NY, and i am trying to get bracs, but since i am in hte military, they wont pay for my braces, i have to get a regular dental plan that covers my breaces.

What dental plan will give me a good orthodontics discount, or at least lower my orthodontics cost by half?
Look into Denticare, American Dental Plan or Americare.
Reply:The only one I know is a distance away; you will have to spend to get there, so better take the nearest.

How to pay for Orthodontics?

I have an orthodontic evaluation tomorrow and I am kinda nervous. I don't know why. I am just curious to know since my insurance will not cover treatment, how does the payment plan work? Are they directly through the provider's office or through a finance company? I don't have much credit so I am curious to know.

Thanks in advance for your help.

How to pay for Orthodontics?
Most offices have their own payment plan without charging you any interest. You will have to give a down payment. The bigger the down payment, the less you will have to give monthly. Other offices have a 3rd party administrator, like OFP. They pay your ortho in full and you make payments, with interest, to the plan.
Reply:Our ortho office looked at what your insurance covers and then subtracts that from the total bill. The portion that was left was what we had to pay and then set up a payment plan for us and we got a bill each month for the agreed upon amount and I paid it each month just like other monthly bills.
Reply:Dearly.
Reply:My experience is that it's just through the office. Or use credit card to pay.
Reply:When I had my braces, the payments were through their office and I could do monthly or every 3 months. I would suggest doing it monthly because it may be harder to come up with 3 months of payment all at one time. My office was very nice and didn't really worry about if my payment was late just as long as I payed it. You just need to be up front and honest about your financial situation because they will work with you.
Reply:Don't be nervous. My insurance only covers $500.I am also going in for my first appointment.I am a single mom and college student. With all my student loans my credit isn't too good. I went to www.carecredit.com. It was one of the finance companies the doctor listed. They gave me $1500. I can use that as a down payment and add more of my money also as a down payment so my monthly bill is low.It will work out for you.I've been planning to get braces for years.
Reply:It really depends on your dentist. I have dental benefits for $11.95 a month that cover Ortho treament. Its $2,250.00 going through them for braces. Check em out if you can save some money with them or your credit is a problem

Do military spouses get orthodontics?

My husband just swore in again today and now that we get dental,i was wondering, can i get braces that they will pay for or is it consider cosmetic and i will have to still come outta my pocket with the money even though we're military

Do military spouses get orthodontics?
Not sure for spouses, but active military cannot get braces unless the military caused injury to the mouth and they are needed to help correct the problem
Reply:as far as I know they do

good luck

Reply:You have to pay for dental care through United Concordia. it costs roughly $30 a month BUT they do not cover braces for spouses over the age of 23. So if you are young, then United Concordia will cover 50% of the cost of braces.

Orthodontic treatment is also available for spouses under the age of 23

From the United Concorida website and handbook.

I know this is a fact. I am 31 and a Spouse of An Active Duty Airman. My husband joined 4 yeas ago when I was 27. I tried at the age of 27 to receive braces and I have been routinely turned down by United Concordia due to my age. I'm too old!! You must be 23 or under. All benefits cease the month you turn 23!
Reply:I have a spouse and 3 kids and they are all covered under United Concordia. There is a cost share involved in anything other than diagnostic, preventive and emergency services. The website below is the benefit booklet, which outlines the cost-share and other information.

Doing a quick look, orthodontic services are a 50% cost-share.
Reply:if you have United Concordia they will only pay 50 % up until age 23. If you are over 23 your on your own.
Reply:no. Braces are only covered for minors under aged 18 and the cap is very low..only like $1800.

a VERY small number of adult dependents can get braces on a Space A basis when on OCONUS orders. usually only if the dental clinic his not busy taking care of kids and AD members. I was on the waiting list for all three years we lived in japan. My name came up 6 weeks before we left....so needless to say,I couldn't get them as the ENTIRE length you will have them on must not exceed his orders. so if you need them for 12 months, you must have at minimum 12 months remaining before he rotates out or you cannot get them.

Does anyone know any orthodontics that except Medicaid in atlanta?

I dont believe that any will, It is considered mostly cosmetic so the chances of finding that are limited.

Reply:You will be sedated.
Reply:Don't worry about it, just wait and see, and if you can't wait just ask your ortho.
Reply:take it and enjoy the ride, just be glad you arent getting the needles, especially the one they put on the roof of your mouth, you thought that was a bone or something, its not!
Reply:I hope you are asleep. I like to be put asleep for any dental procedure, although I know its all in my head it scares the hell out of me.
Reply:well you will problem have laughing gas, and with it it will all seem like a dream
Reply:you'll probably be put to sleep, what do you mean "what can i do during the laughing gas" do you want a gameboy or something

Looking for information on Orthodontics for a 7 year old.?

My daughter doesn't have enough room in her mouth for all of her teeth... they are in the process of fitting her with a palate spreader and space maintainers on her bottom jaw. They are also going to put braces on her top front 4 teeth... to pull the front 2 back and the second 2 forward - they came in behind where they're supposed to be. I've heard different stories about how painful this is going to be for her, and I'm wondering exactly what we're looking at for the next 5 or so years. All of the manuevering is supposed to be finished by next summer... so is she going to keep space maintainers until all of her adult teeth come in? I know they want to put her in full braces at that point. How do they keep all of this going for so many years?

Overbite correction with orthodontics?

I got braces on in Feb 07 and had to move to a different state in Aug 07.

Many orthos in that I consulted after moving kind of gave up after looking at my xrays, claiming it was a complicated case. My current (second) ortho said that my case is very complicated and he said "the only thing I can do is to straighten your teeth". I have an overbite (not too bad, but exists). Now, I am wondering if by straightening my teeth,

did he mean that overbite will be corrected, or it is just straightening my (very) slightly crooked teeth.

I am wondering - why should I go thru this pain just to correct slightly crooked (barely noticeable) teeth. My teeth are just fine, I just wanted to correctr the overbite.

Can I have the braces removed? Would it move back totally in random directions? Wha if I put on a retainer, would it help?

The current ortho also said something about not being able to make space for the teeth to move.

Thanks

Overbite correction with orthodontics?
Did you have any teeth pulled to allow your teeth room to adjust? you should have. maybe that is what he means about not having enough space to move.
Reply:i had an overbite, just had a horrible retainer with blocks to push my bottom jaw forwards for 1 and a half year, it also kind of straightened my teeth, but still needed train tracks afterwards.

To make space for the teeth to move though, they may remove a moler or something
Reply:I currently have braces and the reason for them was that i had an underbite? (does that make sense?LOL).. i have had braces for 2 yrs and it has straigtened them nicely.. After the use of elastics aswell, it has "pulled" my teeth forward to what it should be naturally. After a few months for that, my braces were removed and am currently wearing a retainer, so my teeth gets used to it..

I am not sure about the orthodontics in America, but here in the UK, overbites are not difficult to deal with... Overbite and straightening your teeth are different, although braces can effective deal with both.. However, make sure your orthodontist knows you want the overbite corrected NOT only straightened.

As i am quite young, it may be easier to correct but i am not sure, as everyone is different. Hope it helps abit..
Reply:I would contact your last ortho and see what his/her game plan was. Also, ask this ortho what would happen if you just had the braces taken off. Take his/her game plan to another ortho and see if they can do the same thing. It sounds like you trusted your old ortho more than these new ones. Therefore, see what he/she would do, I'm sure he/she will be upfront with you.

Personally, I don't think your teeth would move back in random directions, they would go back where they were before.

Also, when I had braces, they had to pull one of my bottom front teeth because my jaw didn't have enough room for my teeth once they would be straight. I did not have an overbite. My sister, on the other hand, had a tremendous overbite, and didn't have to have ANY teeth pulled, they straightened her teeth as well. My son had an overbite and never had to have any teeth pulled either. You don't always have to pull teeth - especially since your first ortho didn't say anything about pulling any.

Good luck.

Why do some orthodontics put bands on from the beginning and other do not?

My daughters friend got her braces on Monday and had the colorful bands on her when she came out. My daughter will not get her bands until later. Just curious why one does and the other does not. Does it depend on the work being done? My daughter has to have much more work than her friend.

Why do some orthodontics put bands on from the beginning and other do not?
It just depends on the orthodontist and the patient.

My son needs orthodontics for his cross bite, any idea how much money this might cost?

Talk to an orthodontist, instead of surgery opt for braces. I have a crossbite (nothing bad), and I just had braces put on, and they will be using rubberbands to slowly bring the jaws into an aligned position. For braces, and this is with minor crowding and a crossbite, my treatment is $4230. The good thing about orthodontists is most will allow payments which generally are in the mid $100's. It is all definitely worth it in the end. Most treatments can range anywhere from $3000-7000...I am living in Missouri and the general treatment is $4000-4500.

Depending on your location, North of Boston ranges from $4000-$7000 depending on treatment.

Look into dental schools if cost is an issue, may take longer because you will have a student, but it is more cost efficent.
Reply:if you're in the Philippines, it's a lot cheaper...about 30,000 pesos (that's around 681 dollars only).
Reply:My youngest had a cross bite and our dental insurance covered the entire procedure which was a lengthy process. I recommend that you make this happen for your son, anything you can do to make sure that as an adult he has good dental health is a great duty to perform. My sister didn't decide to do this with an child with an under-bite, and as an adult, although a very intelligent person, he looks like he is mentally deficient. It's harsh, but appearance is important in our society.

How much would orthodontics cost (generally) for just the upper teeth?

...and are "clear" braces the same price as the metal ones. Invisalign is a little more expensive, right?

How much would orthodontics cost (generally) for just the upper teeth?
I'm not sure the price in your area as I live in Australia and the fees vary from place to place. The thing with braces is that they can be used on only one arch (either top or bottom) but this means the orthodontist has no control over your bite. Some orthodontists wont do one arch only and some will. Just depends on their views. The place I worked at did clear (ceramic) braces for a few hundred dollars more. Not all places to invisaline but it is an option depending on how bad your teeth are because it has its limits too. Hope this helps a tiny bit! :)
Reply:I have perfect teeth on the top and I have a slight crook tooth on the bottom (its turned a little bit). Anyway, I wnet to a couple of dentist and the all wanted to put braces on the top as well and there is no need for it at all I told my regular dentist about it and he told me not to do it. And I went and saw 3 different orthodontis and the all wanted to do braces on top and bottom. And since then I have changed my regular dentist and the dentist I have now actually that I had, had braces on the top, because they are perfect. The invisalign are a little more cuase I looked in to doing that and my destist told me not to touch my teeth. I'm in alabama and the cost here was about $3,000-4,500. and that was about 3 or 4 years ago!!!

Hope this helps good luck!!!
Reply:The Braces usually cost around $3500-$5000, without any insurance or dental plan.

But with this plan it costs $2200 (for age 19 and over)

http://mybenefitsplus.com/wpaul

But before you decide, go under 'provider search' and check if there are dentists in your area and then call them to check if they take this Plan, If they do, go ahead and get the Plan. It should save you thousands.

Good luck
