Ouch!...orthodontics?

when i went to my adjustments on Thursday,

today is Saturday, they took off my spacers,

and put in molar bands %26amp; brackets with hooks on them

the molar band on the left side molar bottom, is like really

cutting my tongue and it hurts! and they put wires on the top

and bottom of my teeth. :[ it hurts bad. i cant even chew

semi-soft/hard foods!! and i dont wanna live on soft foods

for like more than 3 days!! does the hurting mean the teeth are moving? and could someone describe to me what my teeth are doing right now? like moving or just hurting cause of the new wires...thanks

Ouch!...orthodontics?
I went through this same problem when I got mine. Yes, it hurts really bad. To solve the problem of your tongue being sore there is a product over the counter that actually puts a seal over the area to protect it. This saved my tongue from being cut up from the new metal in my mouth. If your teeth are hurting then they are moving. It will get better, trust me. Try taking some Tylenol or Motrin for pain. I also used an ice pack on my face for the first couple of days.

Good luck and hang in there...it will be worth it.
Reply:get some wax...
Reply:yeah, their moving. i had that pain when i had that stuff. just take some tylenol pain reliever. then eat a lil bit after. it helps so much...but it should go away in 2-4 days
Reply:they are hurting because of the wires and brackets and because that someone just stuck there whole hand in your mouth.and it will stop in about a week and hurt occasionally.
Reply:the pain will go away after exactly one week. you will be ok until then. i had them for over a year, and that i how it was for me
Reply:i ate mashed patatos for a week to 2 weeks so feel the pain with hard foods or eat mashed stuff with no pain

I remember i 1st got them the day before my b-day so i cryed while i ate my cake lol
Reply:your wires are probably a little tighter and your teeth are adusting to it. I had braces for 3 years and had a pallet splitter and ended up having to get jaw surgery. trust me, it will hurt pretty much everytime they do anything to your mouth, it is a sensative area!!! Good luck!! Hope your mouths turns out beautiful!!

(i would put some wax on the metal parts that are cutting into your mouth)
Reply:well i got my braces off 2 weeks ago and the pain your feeling is worth it

Most of the Pain is your teeth moving actually . Your Gums are pretty much Unprotected Flesh and since Your Teeth are basicly Rocks rubbing against it while moving causes pain soo yes its just part of the process.. in a week or two you will forget about it Just Take some Motrin and it will go away .. I ate a lot of Applesauce and bananas. Ice Cream too. Then as the week goes on try to eat something a little harder like a grape

and then keep going till its back to normal

Just no that in the end all the pain will pay off
Reply:i totally sympathize. braces really hurt at first. cover the parts of the braces and/or wires that irritate you with wax. The hurting probably does mean that your teeth are shifting and your mouth is getting used to accommodating the appliances. how long the soreness lasts varies with different people, but it should probably go away within the week. Don't worry, you won't have to eat soft foods for that long!
Reply:I know how it feels. When I got braces, I couldn't even eat a banana. And my gums were throbbing. Anyways, you're teeth are moving around; that's why it's hurting so much. And for the part where it cuts into your tongue, put some wax on it. I don't mean candle wax or anything, they should have given you wax at the ortho for your braces.
Reply:I've had my braces for two years and at the beginning it sucked because I felt just the same. Rest assured that the pain is just because your teeth have new pressure on them and are being pushed into a position they don't want. It'll get better soon. You'll find out how easily they move later. Get some wax and if it continues to bother you then let your orthodontist know on your next visit. As for the food part...its a sacrifice you have to make. Hope you feel better!
Reply:your teeth are shifting because of the pressure the appliances are putting on them. and you are feeling pain because the metal bands are thicker and sharper then the spacers. you will feel the same pain for almost every appointment you have until after the braces come off, but you will find that it doesn't hurt as much the longer you go. and trust me, it will all pay off. i had to have mine taken off about halfway through the time i was suppose to wear them and the difference from the start was tremendous. it was so different that i was disappointed when they put them back on. take some aspirin, grab a nap, and eat some soup and ice cream, you'll feel better soon :)
Reply:yea they might be moving i think eventually the pain will go away! you wont live on soft foods. maybe ask your dr. if advil or pain reliever can be taken. I had braces so i can feel ya, it hurtS!
Reply:well ur teeth might be twisted a bit and thats why they put it there. also had something like that. im not sure if its the same thing.

and yes. ur teeth are hurting becasue they are moving!

if they hurt too much take tylenol or advil.!!!!
Reply:Sounds like you need to call your doctor and let them know. The idea behind changing the wires is to move your teeth to the next position in your treatment. As soon as they pull off your old bands and brackets your teeth will try to go back to where they were, your teeth will always want to move back to where they started (or in that direction) it takes a long time to "retrain" your teeth and in many cases you will have a permanent retainer so your teeth don't move after you have your braces off.

I guess my point is the pain or pressure you feel is normal and that is just your jay and teeth being pushed in a direction they don't want to go. But, as far as cutting your tongue you better get that looked at it may be they just need to cut the end off a wire or the bracket as a sharp edge which they can snip off in a few seconds.
