Orthodontics and Dental questions?

Hi all..Okay first off..about a year or so ago, I went to the dentist to get an exam and xrays..i needed cavities filled as well asl ike 2 root canels..At that time, I had NO money and no insurance. Now, I changed dentists, i have very LITTLE $$ and very LITTLE insurance. This new dentist wants even more cavities and well as a ton more root canals. I wouldn't think my mouth would have gotten that worse in only a year. I am really wanting braces also.

If I visit an orthodontist, would he be able to tell me exactly what I need done in order to have braces put on? I'm thinking the 2nd dentist i went to, is only in it for the $$, so maybe the orthodontist can tell me how it is and what i need done..any info would be great! thanks guys!

Orthodontics and Dental questions?
There is good news! Even though you do not have dental insurance, you can join a discount dental plan and save on the filings, root canals, crowns and braces. In most metropolitan areas your savings will be about 50% on restorative dental work.
Reply:thats what happens when u leave cavitys they get bigger, and turn into ´root canal, i can tell u now that an orthodontist will not do any treatment for u , til ure dentally fit!!!! go and see another dentist and see what they say,,,, but get it sorted out
Reply:Friend, you need to find a trusted dentist first. You are going to spend money at an orthodontist whom, if he/she is honest, will not be able to deal with braces until your other dental problems are taken care of. I know how little dental insurance provides and how large the co-pay is from personal experience. Chances are that your insurance will not cover an exam from an orthodontist. You need to put the braces on the back burner and deal with the health of your teeth first. Go to another dentist that you are sure is covered by your insurance. Call your insurnace provider first and find out exactly what you are covered for, so that you are not hit with unexpected charges. Best of luck to you.
Reply:The first step is to get those cavities filled. And have your root canals done. It is very possible that your first Dr. did not diagnose all of your cavities or if you let them go too long it is very possible that you have more. Usually dentists don't do unnecassary work. This can cause law suits which no dentist wants to deal with.

You may have found yourself a very thorough dentist who wants to "clean up" your mouth and prevent future problems.

An orthodontist usually will not diagnose carries or cavities. However they will advise you on what work needs to be done before applying braces. If you really think you are being taken for a ride... get a second opinion, but chances are that the dentist you have now is right. Have your full mouth series copied and take it to another practice.

Find a dentist in your area who deals with the company called Care Credit. Almost everyone is excepted reguardless of credit history and the dentist will pay the intrest charges.
