In New Jersey can your dentist also be your orthodontist?

Someone told me that in the State of New Jersey, your general dentist cannot also practice Orthodontics? Is this true? Thanks!

This is not true at all. A dentist in NJ is licensed to perform ANY aspect of dentistry that he/she is qualified by education or experience to perform. This would include orthodontitia. By performing in a discipline that also offers a specialty license, however, the general dentist will be held to the same standard of care as a dentist who has declared a specialty and has a specialty permit. The specialty permit allows the dentist to set himself/herself before the public as a specialist by stating, "Practice Limited to Orthodntics" or "Board Certified in Orthodnotics," for instance.
Reply:False! If they have the education and schooling to do it yes they can.

However the licencing is more strict in new jersey u may have misinterpreted the fact.
