Tongue thrust?

Well, recently I've been trying to figure out what caused my open bite. I turned 18 not too long ago.

I do grind my teeth, but I brought a mouth guard which works really well.

Sadly I do suck my thumb ( old habit that I still do off guard =\ )

What really freaked me out was tongue thrust. Honestly, I'm not even sure anymore, but when I read about tongue thrust I noticed when I swallow, my tongue goes between where my open bite is. It seems that I'm purposely putting it there because I'm really paranoid at the moment.

If I wanted to confirm if I have tongue thrust or not where would be the best place to go? Dentist? orthodontics? Therapy?

I don't plan on getting braces since my teeth are fine with a slight open bite, but I don't want them to get any worse if it was caused from tongue thrust.

Tongue thrust?
I had that same problem.

I got braces but I had to anyways cause they were really f uked up.

But I just practiced on making my tongue push at the roof of my mouth everyday...thats literally all I did..%26amp;%26amp; it took forever to finally start doing it.

%26amp;%26amp; so I don;t do it no more.
Reply:You could try to get a tongue thrust appliance...but it looks like a medieval torture device. Your open bite may or may not have been caused by that and the thumb sucking. Some people have one just because that's how they developed. If you want to see about fixing it, go to your regular dentist. If they think you'd be better off with an orthodontist, they'll refer you out.

Just try really hard not to do it...I know that's easier said than done, though!
