This is gingival hyperplasia commonly seen in orthodontic patients. The party line says that you just have to brush and floss better, but after 30 years I'm starting not to believe that. I think it has something to with the braces themselves. After all, braces work by tricking the body into remodeling tissues by triggering enzymes that dissolve bone and the periodontal ligament on one side of the tooth while creating more of the same on the other side. It might be that some people's gums are more susceptible to the forces applied by braces than others.

This is not a very scientific answer, but I've seen so MANY kids who take wonderful care of their teeth with this type of hyperplasia and even more who you would think SHOULD have this problem because their hygiene is terrible, but they don't.

Don't worry too much, though. Once the braces are removed, things will return to normal. In 30 years, I've only had to trim tissue in maybe 5 or 6 patients where they didn't return to 100% normal.
Reply:gyngivitis
Reply:Can you not compare yourself.
Reply:this is gingivitis, an inflammation of your gum. It's a response of your gum because of the infiltration of bacteria. the best way to fix it, is controlling your oral hygiene by brushing your teeth frequently and perfectly (all part of your teeth mustn't be missed). and do scaling as well, it can removed all your plaque accumulation.
